Living to meet the expectations of others takes an emotional toll which can sometimes manifest as a physical problem. With thousands of autistics entering adulthood, the time has come to forge an identity that defines a generation of young people. The existing paternalistic patterns towards people with autism must be replaced by an open mind, and expectations of good. Self advocacy is a powerful tool that must be called upon to combat negative perceptions concerning those with autism. The global community needs to hear from professionals on the autism spectrum so that positive images of success can permeate their thinking to eradicate limited beliefs concerning autism. The world will benefit tremendously when autistic adults step out of the shadows of limited expectations and into the boundless possibilities of fulfilling their destiny.
